About the book

Design effective workshops that leverage the collective intelligence of a team to solve significant business challenges and innovate a better future.

We’ve all sat through workshops that lack purpose and drag. Workshops where engagement may be lacking or a subset of attendees take over resulting in other attendees ideas being lost. Often there are plenty of ideas but these are never refined into clear next steps in order to achieve tangible outcomes.

The practical POISED methodology (Purpose, Outcomes, Identify question, Stakeholders, Exercises, and Detailed plan) in this book was created to cut years off the learning curve required to plan and run workshops that deliver real results.

David Ross takes you step by step through designing and facilitating effective workshops with ease with ways to ensure that outcomes will deliver business impact.

This comprehensive guide gives you the tools and techniques to

  • plan your workshop with a logical agenda and adequate time frames to maximise flow
  • gain buy-in and lasting commitment from your attendees with realistic, clearly defined outcomes
  • encourage quality discussion and collaboration through carefully selected exercises  (with 30 online workshop exercises included in the book)
  • utilise in-person, online and hybrid workshop toolkits, including key technologies
  • acquire the soft skills to lead the workshop with confidence and combine these with exercises to ensure everyone’s voice is heard
  • achieve realistic and measurable outcomes, whether these be business solutions, innovation or sales opportunities
  • follow up with participants after the workshop to maintain momentum and produce a real impact recognise and mitigate the reasons for workshop failures

If you’re looking to create value for your organisation through collaboration with employees, customers, partners or suppliers , this comprehensive book and methodology is a must-have guide. Start designing your workshops with transformative outcomes today.

About the author

David Ross has over 20 years’ experience managing teams in business. When leading an innovation programme at one of the world’s largest tech comms firms, he and his team ran hundreds of workshops. The experience taught him the power of collaborative workshops, but he also noticed the lack of a methodology to assure business outcomes.

He then created, tested and refined the POISED® methodology and founded Simply Workshops Ltd, which has since helped individuals from all over the world run more productive workshops.

David holds a Postgraduate Business Diploma and has formally studied Innovation through MIT and the University System of Maryland. He has also earned degrees in Engineering and Law. David enjoys cooking Thai food for guests and tropical gardening in his free time.
